. . . where the 1970s live forever!

The Red Sox and Blue Jays split a doubleheader, the Jays winning the opener, 5-4, and the Sox winning the nightcap, 5-3. The Jays won the first game with a three-run rally in the bottom of the ninth inning. Rick Bosetti and Joe Cannon hit one-out singles and Rick Cerone then doubled to the wall in left-center, tying the game. Fred Lynn's throw to the plate was handled by catcher Mike O'Berry, who threw to second in an attempt to nail Cerone. The ball sailed into center field and Cerone raced home with the winning run.

Jim Rice belted a three-run homer and Lynn added a two-run blast to account for all the Sox runs in the second game. Lynn's blast came in the first inning and Rice drilled a 3-2 pitch into the seats in the third frame, following Gary Allenson's being hit by a pitch and Jack Brohamer's drawing a walk.
