Jumping off for four runs in the first inning, the Angels went on to a 6-4 triumph over the Royals. Rod Carew and Carney Lansford walked to open the game and Dan Ford delivered the first run with a single. A sacrifice fly by Don Baylor, double by Willie Aikens and single by Bobby Grich each added one run.

The Angels tallied twice for their winning margin in the sixth. Baylor tripled and scored on a single by Willie Davis, who had entered the game as a pinch-runner in the first for Aikens after his slide at second resulted in an injury.
