With Dave Kingman driving home the winning runs in both games, the Cubs swept a twi-night doubleheader from the Mets, 2-0 and 2-1 in 11 innings. Kingman stroked a two-run single with two out in the third inning of the opener and delivered a run-scoring single in the 11th frame of the nightcap. The winning run in the second game followed a single by Bill Buckner, a sacrifice and a groundout.

Bruce Sutter picked up a save in both ends to boost his season's total to 37, tying the N.L. record set by Clay Carroll of the Reds in 1972 and equalled by Rollie Fingers of the Padres in 1978. [The Sporting News]
