A two-run homer by Willie Stargell in the 11th inning lifted the Pirates to a 5-3 triumph over the Expos in a game that was twice delayed by rain, the second time for two hours and 54 minutes after the fifth inning. Mike Easler led off the Bucs' 11th with a pinch-single and Willie Stargell followed with a circuit clout. The victory boosted the Pirates two games ahead of the Expos in the East division race.

The game was played under protest by Montreal manager Dick Williams, who argued after the first rain delay, which lasted nine minutes in the bottom of the fifth, that the umpires should not have started play again while it still was raining. The crowd of 56,976 brought the attendance for the two-game series to 111,585. [The Sporting News]
