. . . where the 1970s live forever!

John Tudor became the first leftnanded starter for the Red Sox to notch a victory in more than one year when the rookie defeated the Tigers, 4-1, in a game stopped by rain after 6½ innings. The last previous Red Sox southpaw to turn the trick was Bill Lee against the Twins July 15, 1978.

The Red Sox decided the outcome in the first inning when Carl Yastrzemski knocked in two runs with a bases-loaded single and Jim Dwyer added a tally with a grounder. The Tigers' only run was unearned off Tudor, who pitched the first complete game, albeit a shortened one, of his major league career. [The Sporting News]
