Lynn McGlothen pitched a four-hitter for his first shutout of the season and Scot Thompson rapped a two-run single to give the Cubs a 2-0 victory over the Pirates, who slipped one game behind the rain-idled Expos in the East division race.

McGlothen, helping himself, drew a walk in the fifth inning and raced to third on a single by Ivan DeJesus, who took second on the throw. Thompson followed with his single to drive in both runners. [The Sporting News]
