The Red Sox won the opener of a doubleheader, 2-1, and the Tigers gained a split in the second game with a 3-2 victory in 10 innings. With the score tied, 1-1, in the lidlifter, Tom Poquette led off the Red Sox eighth with a single, reached second on a sacrifice and scored on a pinch-single by Jim Dwyer.

The second game was knotted at 2-2 when Ron LeFlore walked to begin the Tigers' 10th, stole second for his fourth theft of the game and advanced on a sacrifice and scored on a single by Champ Summers. [The Sporting News]
