The Mets stymied the Cubs, 3-1, to snap their nine-game losing streak and spoil the managerial debut of Joey Amalfitano, who was named interim skipper after the resignation of Herman Franks. The Mets took the lead in the second inning on the first of three doubles by Richie Hebner, single by Joel Youngblood, error by shortstop Ivan DeJesus and sacrifice fly by Bruce Boisclair.
