Scattering seven hits, Bob Shirley pitched the Padres to an 8-2 victory over the Reds. The Padres scored three times in their first turn at bat and then erupted for five runs in the seventh.

Dave Winfield batted in a pair with a single and Kurt Bevacqua added two with a double. The Reds' runs off Shirley came on back-to-back homers by Dave Concepcion and George Foster in the eighth. [The Sporting News]
