With the help of an error and a wild pitch, the Giants scored four unearned runs in the eighth inning and defeated the Padres, 6-5. The runs were unearned as the result of an error by Dan Briggs.

Bob Owchinko, the Padres' third pitcher of the inning, gave up a single by Larry Herndon that drove in Mike Ivie with the tying run. Owchinko then uncorked a wild pitch and was tagged with the defeat when Johnnie LeMaster singled to drive in Herndon with the Giants' winning run. [The Sporting News]
