Posting their second straight shutout, the Reds defeated the Braves, 6-0, in a game stopped by rain in the top half of the seventh inning. Mike LaCoss, who yielded seven hits in pitching the shutout, followed the example of Frank Pastore, who blanked the Braves in the season opener. The Reds scored five runs in the first inning, knocking out Larry McWilliams before the Braves' lefty starter could retire anyone. The big blow of the frame was a two-run homer by George Foster.
