Combining on a five-hitter, Pete Falcone and Neil Allen hurled the Mets to a 5-0 victory over the Cubs. Falcone yielded just two hits in six innings but was forced to leave the game after pulling a hamstring muscle running the bases.

The Mets took a 1-0 lead in the second when John Stearns doubled, went to third on a single by Jerry Mo-ales and scored on a passed ball by catcher Barry Foote. Frank Taveras stroked a run-scoring single in the third and Morales drove in a tally with a double in the fifth. [The Sporting News]
