. . . where the 1970s live forever!

An intentional walk backfired on Detroit Manager Sparky Anderson as the Royals edged the Tigers, 3-2. The Royals took a 1-0 lead in the fourth inning when Hal McRae singled, advanced to second on a groundout and scored on a single by Pete LaCock.

The Royals made it 3-0 in the seventh. U.L. Washington drew a leadoff walk and moved to second on an infield single by Willie Wilson. With two out McRae was intentionally walked to load the bases, but Willie Aikens spoiled the strategy by drilling a single that scored Washington and Wilson. The Tigers were shut out until the ninth when Champ Summers hit a two-run homer. [The Sporting News]
