A dropped fly ball by Dave Winfield helped the Giants defeat the Padres, 3-1, for their first victory of the season. With one out in the sixth inning and the score tied, 1-1, Rennie Stennett singled. Milt May then lofted a routine fly near the right field line that Winfield muffed. Stennett reached third on the error and scored when Johnny LeMaster grounded out. [The Sporting News]
