Roy Smalley's three-run homer in the ninth inning lifted the Twins to a 5-3 triumph over the Angels. The Twins trailed, 3-1, going into the ninth when Danny Goodwin led off with a walk. Hosken Powell followed with a single before John Castino grounded into a forceout at third. Mike Cubbage then stroked a run-scoring single and Dave LaRoche relieved Mark Clear on the hill for the Angels. After Rob Wilfong struck out, Smalley belted a 1-1 pitch into the left field seats.
