Staging a Garrison finish, the undefeated Reds roared to their fifth victory, beating the Giants, 6-5. The Reds trailed, 5-1, going into the bottom of the ninth when Dave Concepcion began the winning surge with a single. George Foster flied out, but Johnny Bench singled Concepcion to third.

After Ray Knight was safe at first on a fielder's choice, a single by Dan Driessen plated Concepcion and brought on Gary Lavelle in relief of starter Bob Knepper. Junior Kennedy singled home another run and pinch-hitter Ken Griffey walked to load the bases. Dave Collins then drilled a game-winning three-run triple. [The Sporting News]
