A record home-opener crowd of 50,199 enjoyed the Orioles' 12-2 thrashing of the Royals. A wild pitch gave the Orioles a run in the first inning and they scored three times in the second on two singles sandwiched around two walks and a two-run throwing error by second baseman Frank White. Rick Dempsey drilled a two-run homer in the sixth and Ken Singleton clouted a two-run round-tripper in the eighth. [The Sporting News]
