Stout hurling by Frank Tanana and a two-run homer by Brian Downing carried the Angels to a 3-1 decision over the Twins. Carney Lansford drilled a leadoff single in the second inning and Downing followed by ripping a 1-0 pitch over the left-center wall. Tanana, making his first start of the year, showed no effects of the tendinitis that sidelined him for two months last season.
