Led by Tony Perez, who went 4-for-4 and drove in four runs with a two-run homer and double, the Red Sox outlasted the Tigers, 10-9. Perez' homer came in the bottom of the second inning and his two-bagger came in the third frame to tie the game. The Sox got the go-ahead run later in the inning on an infield hit by Butch Hobson.
