Scoring five runs after two were out in the fifth inning, the White Sox went on to an 8-6 verdict over the Yankees. The rally began when Marv Foley doubled and moved to third on an infield single by Greg Pryor. Both runners scored on a two-bagger by Mike Squires, who took third on an errant relay throw and raced home when Alan Bannister beat out a bunt.

Bannister moved to third on a double by Bob Molinaro and after an intentional walk to Lamar Johnson, a two-run single by Chet Lemon capped the outburst. Sox starter Britt Burns was credited with his first major league victory. [The Sporting News]
