Doubles by Robin Yount and Jim Gantner, plus a single by Paul Molitor, produced two runs in the seventh inning and enabled the Brewers to spoil the Yankees' home opener, 3-2. Gorman Thomas homered for the Brewers' initial run in the fourth inning.

The Yankees tied the score in their half on singles by Bob Watson and Lou Piniella around a passed ball. After the Brewers took the lead, the Yankees threatened in the eighth but had to settle for only one run on a pass to Oscar Gamble with the bases loaded. [The Sporting News]
