The Pirates, after scoring six runs in the first inning, failed to hold their lead but then came back to defeat the Cardinals, 12-10. The Cards had four homers -- two by Dane Iorg and one each by Ken Reitz and pinch-hitter Ted Simmons -- while the Pirates had only one, but it was a two-run blow by Dave Parker that put the Bucs back into the lead to stay. Parker, Bill Robinson, Tim Foli and Bill Madlock each had three of Pirates' 16 hits. Robinson and Madlock reached the 1,000-hit mark for their major league careers. [The Sporting News]
