Two veterans, Gaylord Perry and Rusty Staub, joined forces to star as the Rangers defeated the Red Sox, 8-0. Perry, back with the Rangers after two years with San Diego, pitched a five-hitter and posted the 51st shutout and 280th victory of his major league career. Staub, who joined the Rangers from Montreal, hit the ninth grand-slam homer of his career.
