The A's moved into first place in the A.L. West by sweeping a doubleheader from the Angels, 6-1 and 8-2. In the first game, Matt Keough, who managed only two victories last season, registered his third win in as many starts on a five-hitter as the A's collected 10 hits off four Angel pitchers. Dwayne Murphy drove in two runs and Dave Revering, Tony Armas and Rob Picciolo one each.

In the nightcap, the A's got seven of their 12 hits off Frank Tanana and included among them were four bunt singles, one of which squeezed in a run. The A's also stole three bases, including a theft of home by Rickey Henderson, who drove in two runs with a triple. [The Sporting News]
