Playing at third base in place of Bob Horner, who was sent to the minors, Larvell Blanks belted a homer in the 10th inning to lift the Braves to a 3-2 triumph over the Padres. Reliever Bob Shirley threw just one pitch -- the ball Blanks drove over the left field fence. The Padres had tied the game in the sixth on a run-scoring single by Gene Tenace. [The Sporting News]
