J.R. Richard yielded only three hits in 8 1/3 innings and gained the 100th victory of his major league career when the Astros defeated the Mets, 7-4. Dave Smith relieved Richard with two Mets on base and gave up a two-run double by Jerry Morales before getting the final two outs. The Astros piled up 12 hits in support of Richard, including Jeff Leonard's first major league homer. [The Sporting News]
