Taking advantage of Rangers' errors, the Indians posted a 7-4 victory in a game played in steady rain. In the fourth inning, Toby Harrah reached first on shortstop Nelson Norman's wild throw, took third on a single by Mike Hargrove and scored on a double by Cliff Johnson.

A single by Jorge Orta plated Hargrove and Johnson also came home on the play when center fielder Mickey Rivers misplayed the ball. A two-out single by Tom Veryzer capped the four-run outburst.
