A three-run outburst in the ninth inning lifted the Cubs to a 6-4 victory over the Cardinals. The Cubs trailed, 4-3, when Scot Thompson drew a leadoff walk in the ninth, stole second and, after Tim Blackwell struck out, scored on a double by Steve Dillard. Mark Littell then replaced Bob Sykes on the mound for the Cards and uncorked a wild pitch that moved Dillard to third, from where he tallied on a pinch-hit single by Barry Foote.
