Celebrating his 31st birthday, Phil Garner smashed two homers and drove in three runs as the Pirates defeated the Expos, 5-0, behind the pitching of Jim Bibby. Omar Moreno tripled and Tim Foli hit a sacrifice fly in the first inning for the initial run. Garner hit a two-run drive in the second and Bill Robinson added a solo shot in the third before Garner wrapped up the scoring with his second homer in the sixth. [The Sporting News]
