Doug DeCinces homered with a man on base in the second inning as the Orioles scored six runs on only four hits to defeat the Yankees, 7-4. DeCinces hit his homer after a pass to Eddie Murray. Gary Roenicke followed with a double and Rick Dempsey was safe on a fielder's choice.

Yankee first baseman Jim Spencer threw wild to the plate on a grounder by Mark Belanger as Roenicke scored. Al Bumbry singled to drive in Dempsey. A wild throw by second baseman Willie Randolph on a grounder by Rich Dauer allowed Belanger to score. Murray, up for a second time, then singled to drive in Dauer. [The Sporting News]
