When the Rangers changed relievers in the 10th inning, Lance Parrish swung at Danny Darwin's first pitch and singled, driving in pinch-runner Tom Brookens, to give the Tigers a 5-4 victory over the Rangers. Sparky Lyle was on the mound at the start of the stanza and gave up a single by Richie Hebner and a pass to Dave Stegman. Brookens ran for Stegman. After two out, Darwin, who throws righthanded, took over to face Parrish, a righthanded hitter, in a pitching change that failed. [The Sporting News]
