A base-running blunder that wiped out two runs proved costly to the Mariners, who lost to the Angels, 2-1. In the seventh inning, with the bases loaded and two out, Jim Anderson hit an apparent double to right field, driving in Ted Cox from third and Larry Cox from second. However, on appeal, umpires called Larry Cox out for failing to touch third base on his way to the plate. That was the third out and the inning thus ended without any runs scoring. The Angels then broke the 1-1 tie in the bottom of the seventh when they loaded the bases and a run scored on an infield out by Rod Carew. [The Sporting News] |
