Ron Guidry gained credit for his first victory of the year as the Yankees defeated the Twins, 9-6. Guidry, who had started four times previously without a decision, was tagged for 10 hits before giving way to Rudy May in the eighth inning. Leading the Yankee attack, Reggie Jackson hit a two-run homer in the first, singled and scored in the fourth and doubled for an RBI in the seventh before Jim Spencer smashed a two-run homer.
