After the Giants won the first game of a doubleheader, 8-4, the Expos rebounded in the second game, 6-4. In the opener, the Giants tallied twice in the first inning when Jack Clark and Willie McCovey walked and Terry Whitfield doubled them home. Clark singled home a run in the seventh and doubled two more across in a four-run eighth.

The Giants took a 4-1 lead into the bottom of the seventh in the nightcap, but John Tamargo led off a with single and Ken Macha, who had hit his first major league home run in the third, walked. Both runners advanced on a passed ball and scored on a double by Tony Bernazard. A two-bagger by Rowland Office then tied the game.
