A pinch-double by Ron Hodges in the 10th inning lifted the Mets to a 3-2 triumph over the Reds. Jose Cardenal opened the bottom of the 10th with a single and was forced at second by Alex Trevino, who was attempting to sacrifice. Hodges, batting for shortstop Mario Ramirez, lined a 1-2 pitch to the wall in left-center to plate Trevino with the winning run.

The Reds had tied the score at 2-2 in the sixth on a bases-loaded sacrifice fly by Cesar Geronimo, but an alert play by Mets first baseman Lee Mazzilli resulted in a double play. Mazzilli cut off the throw from the outfield and trapped Dan Driessen off second to end the inning. [The Sporting News]
