Punching out nine straight hits in an eight-run fourth inning, the Royals routed the White Sox, 12-5. The outburst came after two outs and was one short of the A.L. mark for most consecutive hits, set by Boston in 1901. The major league mark is 12, set by the Cardinals in 1920 and Brooklyn in 1930.

The White Sox were leading, 3-1, in the fourth when the Royals broke loose. John Wathan, Willie Aikens and Frank White hit singles for one run. After an infield hit by Bob Detherage loaded the bases, a double by Willie Wilson was good for two tallies. A single by U.L. Washington drove in two more and sent White Sox starter Ken Kravec to the showers in favor of Randy Scarbery.
