A homer by Jason Thompson in the 10th inning lifted the Tigers to a 6-5 victory over the Angels. Carney Lansford homered with two men on base and Bobby Grich, who had four hits, contributed two RBIs with a homer and single in the Angels' scoring.

The Tigers took a 5-4 lead in the ninth on a walk to Dave Stegman, single by Kirk Gibson and sacrifice fly by Alan Trammell, but the Angels sent the game into overtime with a double by Dan Ford and single by Grich that scored pinch-runner Bert Campaneris. [The Sporting News]
