After hitting a two-run triple in the third inning, George Brett walked with the bases loaded in the sixth to force in the Royals' deciding run in a 6-5 victory over the Red Sox. In the sixth, after the Royals picked up a run to make the score 5-2, the Red Sox walked Hal McRae intentionally to get at Brett. But the move backfired when reliever Tom Burgmeier passed Brett on four pitches. Dwight Evans hit a homer for the Red Sox in the seventh to spark a rally that fell short with three runs.
