Winning a battle of home runs, the Cubs outslugged the Giants, 15-9. Each club had four homers, but the Cubs' blows accounted for eight runs, while the Giants' drives produced only five counters. Mike Vail, who had a 4-for-5 day, and Jerry Martin each hit a three-run homer for the Cubs. Bill Buckner and Barry Foote added bases-empty knocks. The Giants had circuit clouts by Darrell Evans, Rennie Stennett, Larry Herndon and Bill North, but only Herndon's hit came with a man on base. [The Sporting News]
