The Twins snapped their 14-game Fenway Park losing streak with a 4-3 triumph over the Red Sox. The score was tied, 3-3, when Rick Sofield led off the top of the ninth with a single and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by John Castino. The next batter, Butch Wynegar, tried to check his swing, but the ball hit his bat and just eluded third baseman Butch Hobson for a two-base hit that gave the Twins their first victory at Boston since August 16, 1977. The Sox had tied the game in the fifth inning on a two-run homer by Fred Lynn. [The Sporting News] |
