A pair of errors helped the Royals score all their runs in the third inning and down the Yankees, 4-1. U.L. Washington singled to open the third and Yankees pitcher Mike Griffin let Frank White's sacrifice bunt roll through his legs for an error, putting runners on first and second.

After a bloop single by John Wathan loaded the bases, Darrell Porter delivered a run with a sacrifice fly to left field. When Bobby Murcer's throw to the infield went astray, White scored. Willie Aikens then capped the inning with a two-run homer. [The Sporting News]
