A two-run rally in the bottom of the ninth inning lifted the Padres to a 3-2 victory over the Cardinals. With the Cards ahead, 2-1, pinch-hitter Von Joshua doubled with one out, reached third on a groundout by Ozzie Smith and scored as Jerry Turner beat out a slow roller. Turner went to second on a passed ball and, after Dave Cash was intentionally walked, Gene Richards drilled a single to plate the winning tally. [The Sporting News]
