A single by Bill Madlock in the 12th inning drove home the winning run as the Pirates edged the Giants, 3-2. Ed Ott opened the stanza with a single, went to second on a sacrifice by Dale Berra and came home when Madlock grounded a single up the middle. The Giants had taken a 2-1 lead in the seventh on a two-run homer by Jack Clark, but the Pirates tied the contest in the eighth on a sacrifice fly by Bill Robinson. [The Sporting News]
