A three-run rally in the eighth inning lifted the Tigers to a 6-4 victory over the Orioles. After a two-run double by Al Bumbry had given the Orioles a 4-3 lead in the top of the eighth, Lance Parrish opened the bottom of the frame with a triple and scored on a sacrifice fly by Jason Thompson.

A walk to Richie Hebner and single by Dave Stegman placed runners on first and third and brought Tippy Martinez to the mound in relief of Tim Stoddard. His first serve was a wild pitch and Hebner registered the tie-breaking run. Kirk Gibson followed with a single for an insurance tally. [The Sporting News]
