Driving in all of his team's runs, Kurt Bevacqua led the Padres to a 4-3 victory over the Cubs. The Padres trailed, 3-2, going into the bottom of the ninth, when pinch-hitter Bill Fahey drilled a one-out single off Cubs relief ace Bruce Sutter.

After Paul Dade went in to run for Fahey, Dave Winfield doubled, advancing Dade to third, and Bevacqua then delivered a two-run, game-winning single. Bevacqua had entered the game in the seventh inning as a pinch-hitter and stroked a two-run single. [The Sporting News]
