Splitting 2-1 decisions, the Braves won the opener of a doubleheader and the Mets captured the nightcap. In the first game, the Braves packaged a two-run homer by Dale Murphy in the second inning with the combined six-hit pitching of Rick Matula and Rick Camp to produce the victory.

A pair of errors gave the Mets their second-game win. The Mets trailed, 1-0, when Frank Taveras opened the ninth inning with a single, moved to second on a sacrifice bunt and scored when second baseman Jerry Royster erred on a grounder by Lee Mazzilli, who reached first on the miscue.
