The veteran southpaw took over for starter Fergie Jenkins and allowed only two hits in the last 5 1/3 innings to gain the victory. The score was 4-4 when Al Oliver opened the 10th with a single, moved to second on a sacrifice by Buddy Bell, reached third on an infield out and scored the winning run on a single by Jim Norris.
