During a double steal, catcher Bruce Benedict threw wildly into left field and both runners scored. Larry Parrish followed with a solo homer.

A two-run homer by Gary Carter highlighted a five-run fifth inning and Jerry White clouted a solo pinch-homer in the eighth. The Braves scored seven runs in the ninth on six hits, two errors and a wild pitch and had two men on before reliever Woodie Fryman retired Chris Chambliss for the game's final out.
