A three-run pinch-homer by Al Cowens climaxed a rally in the seventh inning that carried the Angels to a 9-8 victory over the Rangers. The Angels trailed, 7-5, going into the seventh, and drew to within one run on a solo homer by Dan Ford off Dave Rajsich.

Jim Kern relieved and the inning was kept alive when shortstop Dave Roberts erred on a grounder by Joe Rudi. Bobby Grich then drew a walk and Kern was excused in favor of Sparky Lyle. The veteran lefty was greeted by Cowens' game-winning blast. [The Sporting News]
