Vida Blue pitched a six-hitter for his fourth complete game to lead the Giants to a 4-1 decision over the Cubs for their fifth straight victory. Larry Herndon tripled in the first inning and scored on a groundout by Joe Strain. The Giants bunched four hits in the fourth for two more runs with Terry Whitfield, Milt May and Darrell Evans each contributing doubles. Strain stole home in the seventh. [The Sporting News]
